Award-winning Colorado Gold® Gazania or Gazania linearis 'Colorado Gold' is a herbaceous perennial cultivar with bright, daisy-like yellow flowers with orangish-brown center disk florets, blooming in late spring through the summer. It is a stemless, low-growing plant that grows 3 to 6 inches tall and 6 to 12 inches wide with a compact, ground-hugging mat habit. Its foliage presents as a basal rosette of narrow, shiny, deep-green leaves. The undersides of the leaves are silvery, which differs from the plant species. It is a member of the daisy family (Asteraceae). Prefers full sun to partial shade and is adaptable to a variety of soil types, with well-drained, low- to medium-moisture conditions. It is intolerant of wet, soggy soils and is best planted in gravel-based soil with quick drainage. Once established, watering should be deep but infrequent. It is more winter-hardy than other Gazania varieties, and best grown in hardiness zones 5 to 9. This plant is fast-growing, drought-tolerant, and deer- and rabbit-resistant. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage more flowers. Consider Gazania linearis 'Colorado Gold' as a low-growing border planting, container plant, or in a pollinator garden, rock garden, or cottage garden. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: No significant insect pests or diseases. Monitor for mealybugs and thrips. Improper drainage can lead to root and stem rot. Other possible diseases include powdery mildew, fungal spots, and crown rot.
