‘Hosui’ is a hybrid Asian pear in the rose family (Rosaceae) that was introduced in Japan in 1972. The tree grows 10 to 15 feet tall, 8 to 10 feet wide and requires 450 hours of chill time. Plant in full sun in well-drained, fertile, moist soil. Plant with another pear that blooms at the same time for pollination. The pears that follow are round with a golden-brown skin and juicy, crisp and sweet flesh that matures mid to late summer. This is a good choice for warmer winter climates, as the chill requirements are less than those of other Asian pears.
