Heart 'n' Soul is a hybrid shrub in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Pierre Orard of France and introduced in the United States in 2001 by Weeks Wholesale Rose Grower, Inc. Parentage is Tamango x Iceberg. This shrub has a spreading upright habit and grows 4-5 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide. Plant in full sun in amended, well-drained, moist garden soil. Prune in late winter to early spring to remove damaged, dead, crossed or diseased wood. Prune canes by 1/3 or more if needed. Protect new growth from early spring frosts. Flowers of Heart 'n' Soul are white with red ruffled edges, 2-3 inches across, mild to no fragrance and 18-22 petals. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-blooming. Flushes of blooms will appear throughout the season. Leaves are glossy, dark green on stems with prickles. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Watch for powdery mildew, rust and black spot. See pests of roses to the left. Deer will browse roses.
