Silver Moon is a hybrid rambler in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Dr. Walter Van Fleet in 1910. The parentage is uncertain for this rose. Silver moon is a vigorous climber growing 10-20 feet tall and spreading 6-8 feet wide. Plant in full sun in moist, fertile, well-drained soils. Pruning should be done only after flowering is completed, as it blooms on old wood. Remove dead or diseased canes as needed. It may require winter protection in colder climates. The white blend semi-double flowers are up to 5" in diameter with a mild apple fragrance. Blooms appear once in late spring to early summer and are mostly solitary. The foliage is attractive, glossy, leathery and dark green on canes with many prickles. Use silver moon as a hedge or climbing on any vertical surface in an English, cottage or cutting garden.
