This cultivar is no longer readily available from commercial sources. Starina is a miniature hybrid shrub rose in the rose family (Rosaceae) bred by Marie-Louise (Louisette) Meilland of France and was introduced to the United States in 1965. Parentage is (Dany Robin × Fire King) × Perla de Montserrat Starina will grow 1-2 feet tall and wide in a compact bushy form and prefers full sun to partial shade. Plant in amended, well-drained, moist garden soil and prune in late winter. to early spring. The 1-2-inch-wide, double blooms are orange-red with yellow undertones, strongly fragrant and have 17 to 25 petals. The shrub blooms in flushes throughout the season. Use in the border front, to line a walkway or in a container. Plant near the patio to enjoy the fragrance. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Good disease resistance.
