'Jeddeloh' Canadian hemlock is a dwarf, woody, needled evergreen cultivar with a mounded, spreading habit that gives it the appearance of a giant bird’s nest eventually reaching 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. This hemlock is best grown in shady, moist areas with good drainage and cool summers, sheltered from drying winds. It needs supplemental watering during high heat or drought. Use ‘Jeddeloh’ as a specimen plant or in a rock, wildlife, or woodland garden. It also tolerates use as a container plant. The arching stems on established plants may have small cones. Insects, Diseases, and Other Plant Problems: Hemlock wooly adelgid is a major pest. Other insect problems include elongate hemlock scale, hemlock borer, fir flat-headed borer, hemlock looper, hemlock rust mite, hemlock sawfly, bagworms, spider mites, gypsy moths, spruce budworm, spruce leaf miner and grape scale. Disease problems include leaf (needle) blight, cankers, blister and needle rusts, and sapwood rot. Environmental problems include sunscorch in hot weather and sensitivity to drought.
